Testing your children for FVL

This is a really sticky issue for some people. I can only say what I did and what I believe in. I didn't want my daughter to go through what I have medically. When I found out I had FVL, I took her in and had her tested.

As a parent, it's up to you to decide for a minor if they will be tested. For siblings and family members older than 18, it's up to them. They're adults and they can make their own decisions.

In my family, all the immediate family decided to get tested. However, my aunt chose not to be tested. Considering this disorder came from my father's side (her brother), I felt this was an inappropriate response from her, but everyone makes their own choices.
